PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Hold that hot dog! Japanese eating champion Takeru Kobayashi is considering chowing down on savory chicken wings in Philadelphia’s bawdy Wing Bowl.

Kobayashi is a six-time champion in the Coney Island Fourth of July hot dog contest. He took a recruiting trip to Wing Bowl’s site on Thursday where he sampled some of the wings made for the Super Bowl weekend contest.

Former Wing Bowl champion Bill “El Wingador” Simmons showed Kobayashi proper competitive eating techniques. He told Kobayashi that Wing Bowl was the Mardi Gras of Philadelphia.

Kobayashi did not compete, but crashed the stage after Joey Chestnut’s win at Coney Island this year. Kobayashi did not say when he would make a decision on Wing Bowl, an annual decadent display first held in 1993.

Jonathan “Super” Squibb won this year by eating 238 wings in 30 minutes.
