WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Marcel Archer rushed for four touchdowns, including the game-winner with 51 seconds left, and Sacred Heart defeated Monmouth 26-25 in a Northeast Conference game Saturday.
Archer scored on runs of 3, 4, 20 yards before his final touchdown, a 1-yard run, provided the winning margin. The Pioneers (3-6, 1-5) built a 14-3 lead on Archer’s first two scores, but saw the lead disappear as Monmouth (3-5, 3-2) ran off 16 straight points.
The Hawks, who outgained Sacred Heart 474-313 in total yards, scrambled to try for a winning field goal at the end, but never had a chance to try it. They advanced to the Sacred Heart 37 in the closing seconds, but Justin Embler sacked Monmouth quarterback Kyle Frazier as time ran out.
Archer finished with 76 yards on 17 carries as the Pioneers ended Monmouth’s seven-game winning streak in their series.
