Johnson, Day atop leaderboard in Boston

NORTON, Mass. (AP) — Zach Johnson and Jason Day beat up on the TPC Boston and beat the rain at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

Johnson made another strong case about being a Ryder Cup pick on Friday when he rolled in putts from everywhere in easy scoring conditions for an 8-under 63 to share the lead with Day.

Equally important, they finished ahead of storms from Hurricane Earl that stopped play early in the afternoon. It might have come at a perfect time for Tiger Woods, who already was 1 over and had a 15-foot par putt on his fourth hole.

Woods needs a good week to advance to the third round of the PGA Tour playoffs.

Johnson is considered a strong favorite to be one of four captain’s picks for the Ryder Cup.
