BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Florida Atlantic blocked a potential 28-yard game-winning field goal on the final play to hold off Alabama-Birmingham in a 32-31 win in the season opener for both teams on Thursday night.
Alfred Morris scored on a 38-yard run with 2:20 left in the game for the Owls, who trailed 28-12 midway through the third quarter.
UAB quarterback David Isabelle, who ran for three touchdowns, threw an interception that was returned 38 yards for a touchdown by Brently Harstad to pull FAU within 28-19.
Jeff Van Camp’s third touchdown pass of the game — a 43-yarder to Willie Floyd — for the Owls final score of the game.
