SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Senior quarterback Cody Kirby accounted for three touchdowns, Chris Douglas ran for 128 yards and Missouri State routed Eastern Kentucky 31-9 on Friday.
Both teams had to wait an extra day to start their seasons. Lightning delayed the kickoff Thursday night for three hours before officials finally decided to postpone the game.
Kirby finished 15 of 25 for 199 yards passing, including a 28-yard touchdown toss to Jermaine Saffold. Kirby also scored on a pair of short runs for the Bears.
Eastern Kentucky gained just 35 yards rushing, committed three turnovers and converted only 2 of 15 third downs. Logan O’Connor kicked three field goals for the Colonels’ only points.
T.J. Pryor threw for 315 yards, but was 22 of 47 with a pair of interceptions.
