SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The state Senate race in the Spokane-area 6th Legislative District was the most expensive in state history in the last election, and money is pouring in again.
Democrat Chris Marr beat Republican Brad Benson in 2006 in a race that cost a combined $818,000 for a job that pays $42,000 a year.
This year, Marr has raised $338,000 so far against Republican challenger Mike Baumgartner, who has raised $158,000. The reason for all the spending is this is a rare swing district that has elected Democrats and Republicans in recent elections.
