Gardner-Webb beats Brevard 28-14 behind Blount

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Freshman Juanne Blount carried 18 times for 134 yards and a touchdown Saturday night to lead Gardner-Webb to a 28-14 win over Brevard College in the season opener for the Runnin’ Bulldogs.

Blount entered the game in the middle of the first quarter after Kenny Little, who had 45 yards rushing and a touchdown, was injured.

Blount burst up the middle for 58 yards on his first carry, and scored on a 2-yard touchdown run with 9:50 to play.

Brevard (1-1) averaged just 3.5 yards per play but had possession for 38:17. The Tornados finished with 206 yards rushing and 240 yards total offense. Quarterback Michael Crumbaker scored on 1-yard and 2-yard runs.
