LA PINE, Ore. (AP) — Officials in the central Oregon town of La Pine are considering whether they need a tougher leash law.
A random attack by pit bulls on other dogs practicing for a show at the Deschutes County Fair in July led some in the community to push for tougher animal control laws.
Ever since they city incorporated in 2006, La Pine has fewer animal control laws than it did before because it went from Deschutes County animal control regulations to less-restrictive state laws.
La Pine Mayor Kitty Shields told The Bulletin newspaper that adopting city ordinances, including an animal control ordinance, is high on the city’s to-do list, but still probably some months away.
