FERNDALE, Wash. (AP) — Ferndale teachers voted Tuesday to strike, postponing the start of classes that had been scheduled for Wednesday.

The Bellingham Herald reports talks continue with a mediator between the Ferndale School District and the Ferndale Education Association.

Association President Tracie Morris says the sticking point is more planning time for elementary school teachers. Morris says they now average 24 minutes a day and the union wants at least 30 minutes.

The district has about 5,000 students at 11 schools.
