ELMA, Wash. (AP) — It’s not enough to be attractive, poised and well-spoken to be a rodeo queen; you also have to excel at horsemanship.

Twenty-one-year-old Brandy Young of Elma has been riding since she was 9 years old and thinks she has a shot at winning the title of Miss Northwest Professional Rodeo Association.

The Aberdeen Daily World reports she’ll be one of eight women competing at the pageant Sept. 23 in Elma. Young’s ultimate goal is to compete for the title of Miss Rodeo America.
