NEW YORK (AP) — Mets ace Johan Santana will have shoulder surgery.
The Mets said Friday that an MRI a day earlier showed the two-time AL Cy Young Award winner has a torn anterior capsule on the front and bottom of his pitching shoulder.
New York said its anticipates the left-hander will be able to resume throwing in the spring.
Santana’s 2009 season was cut short by Sept. 1 surgery to remove bone chips from his left elbow.
