As many as 700 members of the Vancouver East Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will gather Saturday to do volunteer work in honor of the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

The group will beautify Pacific Community Park, at the corner of Northeast 18th Street and Northeast 172nd Avenue. Hours are 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Participants will pick up litter, pull weeds, prune vegetation, rake shrub beds, remove ivy and other invasive species, sweep sidewalks and wash picnic tables, play equipment, signs and gates.

Parks officials will supply litter bags, disposable gloves and other materials. Volunteers will bring rakes, brooms, shovels and other equipment.

LDS congregations throughout the area will perform similar service projects to honor the victims of Sept. 11, 2001.
