Nets sign veteran forward Joe Smith

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Nets have signed veteran free agent forward Joe Smith.

The Nets did not disclose contract terms in announcing the deal Friday.

The first pick overall in the 1995 draft, this will be Smith’s 11th team in his 15-year NBA career. He appeared in 64 games with Atlanta last season, averaging 3.0 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Earlier Friday, the Nets hired Milton Lee as director of basketball operations.
