PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon Republicans and Chris Dudley’s campaign say a story in the Oregonian that questioned whether Dudley lived in Oregon while maintaining a residence in Washington to avoid paying Oregon taxes is a non-issue.
Dudley, the Republican candidate for governor, says in a Facebook posting that the story confirms that he bought a house in Washington in 1994, that he paid more than $460,000 in Oregon income taxes while playing for the Portland Trail Blazers and that he was a Washington resident.
The Oregonian quotes former neighbors who say he lived in Portland and a couple who bought the house from Dudley and found food in the refrigerator.
In a conference call with reporters, state Republicans legislators said the residency question isn’t important, but they did not challenge any facts in the Oregonian story.
