IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker missed Saturday’s 35-7 win over Iowa State after being hospitalized with back pain.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Parker, who is diabetic, complained of back pain on Thursday. Doctors admitted Parker to the hospital on Friday.

Ferentz says there is “nothing major’ going on with Parker and is hopeful Parker will be back in a couple of days.

The 68-year-old Parker is in his 12th season at Iowa. The Hawkeyes were ranked in the top 10 nationally in scoring defense each of the last two years.

Iowa has given up just 14 points through two games this season.
