Legree passes Hampton over Howard 31-21

WASHINGTON (AP) — David Legree passed for two touchdowns as Hampton University scored 24 straight points Saturday to defeat Howard University 31-21.

After Terrance Leffall put the Bison ahead 14-7 with 2:46 left in the second quarter, Legree’s 28-yard touchdown pass to Dyril McCain tied the game with 1:27 to go, completing a five-play, 60-yard drive.

Javaris Brown’s 4-yard run put the Pirates ahead early in the third quarter, and Legree’s 8-yard touchdown pass to Donte Davis gave Hampton (1-1, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 28-14 lead.

Legree completed 13 of 25 passes for 133 yards and rushed seven times for 62 yards. Steve Robinson, who scored Hampton’s first touchdown on a 1-yard run, was the Pirates’ leading rusher with 86 yards on 17 carries.

Casey Council had 83 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries for Howard (0-2, 0-1).
