Lenoir-Rhyne cashes in Davidson turnovers, 41-13

HICKORY, N.C. (AP) — James Pone scored on a 59-yard run and first-half turnovers led to three additional touchdowns by Lenoir-Rhyne in a 41-13 victory over Davidson on Saturday night.

Pone, who rushed for 70 yards on five carries, scored on the Bears’ first play after the Wildcats’ only first-half touchdown, a 9-yard run by Kenny Mantuo, who had 12 carries for 89 yards.

Marcus Shuford, Carl Brooks and Cam Thompkins of the Bears (1-1) all intercepted first-half passes by Chris Cochrane of the Wildcats (0-2), with Shuford’s and Thompkins’ leading to touchdowns on drives of 38 and 21 yards, respectively.

Justin Williams fumbled a punt at Davidson’s 15 with 1:33 left in the half, leading to a 1-yard Le’Quan McCorkle touchdown run and a 28-7 lead.

McCorkle scored three touchdowns and had 45 yards on 12 carries for the Bears, and Major Herron ran 12 times for 64 yards.
