LAGOS DE COVADONGA, Spain (AP) — QuickStep rider Carlos Barredo won the 15th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Sunday and Italian cyclist Vincenzo Nibali kept the overall leader’s red jersey.

The Spaniard won the tough 116.4-mile mountain ride — starting at Solares and ending with a special category finish at Lagos de Covadonga — in 4 hours, 33 minutes, 9 seconds.

Nico Sijmens of Cofidis was 1:07 behind Barredo and HTC-Columbia rider Martin Velits was 1:43 back in third.

Nibali, who rides for Liquigas-Doimo, kept a 4-second lead over Spanish rival Joaquin Rodriguez of Team Katusha.

Fellow Spaniard Ezequiel Mosquera gained 11 seconds for Xacobeo Galicia and is now 39 seconds behind Nibali.
