Redskins’ Shanahan looking for ‘a few more points’

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Mike Shanahan knows he can’t keep winning if his offense can’t find the end zone.

Shanahan won his debut with the Washington Redskins on Sunday, but the defense scored the only touchdown in the 13-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

While pleased to be 1-0, the coach said Monday that he hopes “Shanahan football” means scoring more points.

Shanahan said the win showed the importance of playing a full 60 minutes. While that’s a tired coaches’ cliche, it rang true this time: The Redskins scored on the last play of the first half, and they held on to win when a holding penalty was called on Dallas on the final play of the game.

The Redskins next face the Houston Texans on Sunday.
