CLEVELAND (AP) — A person familiar with the hiring says the Cleveland Cavaliers have added former Phoenix executive David Griffin as their vice president of basketball operations.
Griffin, who resigned as the Suns’ senior vice president of basketball operations when general manager Steve Kerr left in June, will assist Cleveland GM Chris Grant, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not yet announced the addition.
Griffin’s hiring was first reported by ESPN.
The Cavs’ front office has been in transition since Danny Ferry left this summer. He was replaced by Grant. Also, vice president of basketball operations Lance Blanks resigned to become Phoenix’s GM.
Griffin has turned down GM opportunities with Memphis and Denver.
