KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs rookie linebacker Cameron Sheffield is gone for the season after being placed on injured reserve.

The Chiefs said Wednesday the club has signed linebacker Charlie Anderson to replace Sheffield, who was hospitalized with a neck injury after hurting his neck while making a tackle during an Aug. 27 preseason game against Philadelphia.

Sheffield was drafted in the fifth round out of Troy and was competing for a job as a backup.

Anderson, a 2004 draft pick by Houston, has played in 92 games with the Texans and Dolphins.
