SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — The man accused of causing the crash that killed a promising Los Angeles Angels pitcher and two others told investigators he was so drunk he couldn’t remember getting in the car.
According to City News Service, jurors at the trial Thursday watched a police interview with Andrew Thomas Gallo, who is charged with three counts of second-degree murder for driving drunk and causing the April 2009 crash.
Killed were 22-year-old pitcher Nick Adenhart; 20-year-old Courtney Stewart; and 25-year-old Henry Pearson.
Gallo and his stepbrother drank for nearly three hours before the crash.
In the video, Gallo struggles to recall details from the evening.
He says the crash woke him up and he was surprised to discover he was in the driver’s seat because his license had been suspended after a previous conviction for driving under the influence.
