Report: Illinois bishop to be Seattle’s archbishop

SEATTLE (AP) — Seattle has a new archbishop.

KOMO News reports that Bishop J. Peter Sartain of Illinois has been chosen to lead the Catholic church in the Seattle area.

Pope Benedict XVI accepted Archbishop Alex J. Brunett’s resignation Wednesday. He left the post without giving a reason. He had served as Seattle’s archbishop for 13 years.

An official announcement is scheduled for Thursday morning.
