UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) — A University Place fire official says a woman cleaning her parents’ home found what appeared to be a grenade, put it in a plastic bag and dropped it off at the police department’s front desk. Assistant Fire Chief Dave Dupille says the building housing both the police and fire departments was quickly evacuated Thursday afternoon.

The Pierce County sheriff’s bomb squad was called. The News Tribune reports the bomb squad determined the grenade was inert.
