SAITAMA, Japan (AP) — Mexican fighter Tomas Rojas beat Kohei Kono by a unanimous decision Monday to capture the vacant WBC super flyweight title.
The 30-year-old Rojas dominated his Japanese opponent in the early rounds and survived being knocked down in the final round to improve to 34-12, including 23 knockouts, with one draw.
Kono dropped to 25-5 with nine knockouts.
The title became vacant when Vic Darchinyan moved up to bantamweight to capture the IBO championship.
Takashi Uchiyama defeated Roy Mukhlis of Indonesia on a technical knockout in the fifth round to defend his WBA super featherweight title for the second time.
