WASHINGTON (AP) — D.C. United forward Chris Pontius has undergone season-ending surgery on his right hamstring.

United said Tuesday that Pontius will need about six months to recover.

Pontius has been hampered by the hamstring all season. He played in 17 MLS games this year and had two goals and one assist.

Pontius was the No. 7 overall pick by United in the 2009 draft.
