IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says running back Jewel Hampton will have knee surgery and is likely gone for the rest of the season.

Hampton, a redshirt sophomore, hurt his left knee in the second half of Saturday’s 34-27 loss at Arizona.

Hampton missed all of last season after tearing the ACL in his right knee. He had been splitting carries with starter Adam Robinson. Hampton has rushed for 114 yards on 27 carries this season.

Robinson leads the 18th-ranked Hawkeyes (2-1) with 270 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Robinson will get most of the carries during Saturday’s game against Ball State.

Ferentz also said Tuesday that backup linebacker Bruce Davis will likely miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
