PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Supporters of the Oregon governor candidates have ramped up their attacks, and it’s getting personal.
Democrats on Thursday asked the state Revenue Department to look into Republican Chris Dudley’s tax history, saying he might have broken the law.
Dudley has acknowledged he moved to Washington state to avoid paying some Oregon taxes in the mid-1990s but says he did nothing illegal.
Republicans seized on a report in Willamette Week concerning Democratic governor candidate John Kitzhaber’s 1999 home loan. They said he got favorable treatment from a Portland stock brokerage whose founder he appointed to a state investment board.
Kitzhaber says the loan was not favor, and before he paid it off early, it cost more than $45,000 in interest
