RICHLAND, Wash. (AP) — A Richland engineer who had thousands of images of child pornography on his computer was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Spokane to five years in prison.

Fifty-six-year-old Franklin Mendoza Corpuz pleaded guilty in June to receiving child pornography.

The Tri-City Herald reports he was prosecuted under the Justice Department’s Project Safe Childhood program.

Corpuz told investigators he wandered into child pornography websites because of curiosity and used them as a release mechanism.
