TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — Fourth-seeded Elena Vesnina of Russia rallied in the third set to beat fifth-seeded Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 and advance to the final of the Tashkent Open.
Vesnina, 4-1 down in the third set Friday, won five consecutive games to secure her second appearance in a final this season. The Russian is looking for her first career title after a runner-up finish in Istanbul in July.
Niculescu, a doubles specialist, was playing in her first career singles semifinal.
In Saturday’s all-Russian final, Vesnina will play either seventh-seeded Alla Kudryavtseva or Evgeniya Rodina.
