SEATTLE (AP) — A man described as one of the most violent criminals in Seattle history is being sentenced by a federal judge Friday for what prosecutors hope is the last time.

Devaughn Dorsey has shot no fewer than eight people since 1990. He didn’t kill any, but did paralyze one victim.

He faces at least 23 years and possibly up to life in prison for the most recent case, which involves the shooting of a woman and her 10-year-old son just two days before she was scheduled to testify against him to a federal grand jury investigating a car theft ring. Dorsey fired nine shots into the woman’s West Seattle apartment in 2008. He shot the woman and her son in the chest but they survived.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle is seeking a life sentence. Prosecutors say it’s a mystery he managed to shoot so many people without killing them.

Dorsey’s attorneys have recommended a sentence of 23 years.
