BEND, Ore. (AP) — A Bend teenager who learned to fly kites indoors almost made it to the finals on the “America’s Got Talent” TV show.

The Bulletin reports that 17-year-old Connor Doran made it to the semifinals in front of a packed studio audience and 11 million viewers at home.

His mother, Amy Doran, told the Bend newspaper that Connor gave indoor kites a try after traveling with her to kite festivals around the Northwest to watch her compete in both outdoor and indoor contests.

Amy Doran says that Connor was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 4 years old. But she says the kite flying has helped him avoid seizures.

And even though Connor didn’t make the finals on TV, he has acquired a big Internet audience on YouTube.
