LOME, Togo (AP) — A security official says two members of Togo’s interim football federation have been detained on suspicion of being involved with the fake national team that played an unsanctioned match against Bahrain.

Col. Damehane Yark, commander of the Togolese National Paramilitary Gendarmerie, said Friday that Antoine Folly and Doucoure Mamadou had been held for questioning.

Folly was initially a member of the disciplinary commission set up by the federation to investigate the now-famous Sept. 7 international in Bahrain involving a group of unknown players pretending to be Togo’s national team.

Yark also said former Togo coach Tchanile Bana, who was banned for three years for his role as the organizer behind the fake team, was now “on the run.”
