MULTAN, Pakistan (AP) — Police say gunmen have killed two worshippers in an attack on a mosque in eastern Pakistan.

Senior police official Babar Bakhat Qureshi says seven others were wounded in the attack early Saturday in the city of Bahawalpore.

He says the motive behind the attack on the Sunni mosque is unclear.

Pakistan has a history of sectarian violence often involving Sunni extremists targeting minority Shiite Muslims. But attacks on Sunni mosques are also common.

Bahawalpore is about 60 miles (100 kilometers) west of Multan, a main city in eastern Pakistan.
