LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Cal Poly scored 37 straight points over the second and third quarters and broke a seven-game road losing streak with a 40-14 win at McNeese State on Saturday night.
The Mustangs (3-1), who lost all six of their road games last season and at Texas State last week, scored three touchdowns in the second quarter after falling behind 7-3. They added two more touchdowns, one on a 24-yard interception return by Johnny Millard, and a safety in the third quarter.
Mark Rodgers rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Andre Broadous had a team-high 89 yards and a touchdown.
The Cowboys (1-2), held to 52 yards on the ground, had three passes intercepted and lost two fumbles.
The game, delayed 43 minutes because of lightning, was the first between the schools. A game scheduled in 2008 at McNeese was canceled because of a hurricane.
