VANCOUVER — A statewide annual survey of people who walk or bike to their destinations will be held in 26 cities, including Vancouver, from Oct. 5-7.

Volunteers are needed as counters.

“We are working on ways to reduce the number of miles we drive each year, and counting bicyclists and pedestrians at specific locations can help us more accurately measure demand and the benefits of existing paths and trails,” Washington Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond said in a statement. “The counts also help us identify where future bicycle and pedestrian facilities are needed.”

The first statewide survey was conducted in 2008.

To volunteer or learn more about the event, go to www.wsdot.wa.gov/bike/Count.htm or contact the Cascade Bicycle Club at tessa.greegor@cascadebicycleclub.org or call 206-204-0913.
