ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Texas Rangers raised their AL West championship flag in ceremonies before Monday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners.
The Rangers clinched their first division title since 1999 on Saturday in Oakland, then celebrated with their fans on Monday when they opened a season-ending seven-game homestand.
One slot on the left of the row of flags over the outfield facade was blank until the AL West flag was revealed. The crowd responded with a standing ovation.
The team also unveiled an outfield banner commemorating the AL West title.
“It’s special for me, but more special for the players, that fans can see that these guys are champions,” manager Ron Washington said.
