MUNICH (AP) — Two-time Olympic skiing champion Maria Riesch is throwing her support behind Munich’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Games.

Riesch says she will “try to win (over) nationally and internationally known faces” to back the bid.

She joins figure skating great Katarina Witt in trying to lift the Bavarian city’s troubled bid. Witt is taking a higher-profile role in the campaign following the recent departure of chief executive Willy Bogner.

Riesch says “we women will get things done. Kati and I are a strong team.”

Munich is competing against Annecy, France; and Pyeongchang, South Korea.

The IOC will select the host city in a July 2011 vote in Durban, South Africa.
