BEND, Ore. (AP) — A small black bear that had been wandering around a Bend neighborhood has been removed and relocated.

The Bulletin reported the young male bear weighed only about 50 pounds but was healthy and did not cause any damage before state biologists used a tranquilizer gun to sedate him.

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials say black bears are rarely seen in the Bend area because it does not have the range of food or habitat they need.

The bear that was trapped and tagged on Monday was released on national forest land southwest of Bend.

Officials say bears that roam into town get only one chance, so they hope this young bear learns his lesson and stays in the forest.
