LAKE OSWEGO, ORE. — The Greenbrier Co. announced Monday that it has received orders for 3,000 new rail cars worth roughly $200 million. These new orders are expected to be delivered by the Lake Oswego, Ore., company this year and in 2011. Over the past two months, the company has received orders for more than 4,700 new rail cars, and for refurbishment work on another 1,100 rail cards.

Greenbrier President William A. Furman said in a statement that this demand will benefit a company that has experienced recent losses. Those losses are tied, in part, to an industry-wide slowdown in demand for marine products.
