Letter: Some tape not easily unraveled

My niece, 21, needed her Oregon birth record but I could not get it for her unless I had a Power of Attorney. So I sent her the forms to have notarized, but the bank said she needed a photo Washington ID. To get a Washington ID, she needed her Social Security card … and birth record. So, a week later, her sister got her birth record.

So, my niece went to get her Washington ID with her birth record, Social Security card, photocopy of her old Oregon ID and a letter from Social Security to verify address. All set, right?

No … as she was under 25 she had to have a parent with her to get the Washington ID. She has no family living in Washington. So how does a 21-year-old get a Washington ID?

Washington is so strict for identification but lenient on criminals.
