SEATTLE (AP) — Microsoft Corp. is pursuing the release of a manager who has been held by authorities in Libya for nearly three weeks.
The company said Wednesday it has been working with international organizations for two weeks to secure the release of Khalid Elhasumi from Libyan authorities. He has been in custody since March 19.
Microsoft said it has no information about the reasons for Elhasumi’s detention.
Ali Faramawy, vice president of Microsoft’s Middle East and Africa operations, said the company is hopeful he will be released soon.
Faramawy says the company is in touch with his family.
Elhasumi joined Microsoft in 2010 as a country-wide manager of its Libya operations. Microsoft first opened offices in Libya in 2006.
