ASHLAND, Ore. (AP) — Organizers of the Pear Blossom Festival in Medford have decided to allow a gay rights group to march in its parade.

The Ashland Daily Tidings reports that festival organizers had initially denied Southern Oregon Pride from the parade, set for Saturday.

The president of the gay rights group, Gina DuQuenne, said organizers have not explained why the application was rejected at first.

The president of the festival association did not return messages seeking comment.

DuQuenne said dozens of Southern Oregon Pride members and their supporters plan to march in the parade, carrying a 31-foot rainbow flag.
