YACHATS, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a hiker found the remains of two people at the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area south of Yachats.

Oregon state police say the hiker apparently stumbled on the remains after veering off a foot trail in the coastal park.

They appeared to be those of an adult male and adult female and had been at the location for a long time.

The remains were turned over to the medical examiner to determine identities and the causes of death.

The patrol says its criminal investigations division is looking into the deaths.
