CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Joanne Boyle is the new women’s basketball coach at Virginia.

Virginia athletic director Craig Littlepage says Boyle will become the fourth women’s head coach in the 38-year history of the program. She is leaving after six years at California with a 137-64 record.

Boyle replaces Hall of Famer Debbie Ryan, who resigned at the end of her 34th season.

Boyle has a history in Virginia, having spent three years at Richmond before leaving in 2005 to take the job at California. She led the Golden Bears to four trips to the NCAA tournament. Cal won the WNIT in 2010.

In nine seasons as a head coach, Boyle has a 204-93 record.
