CELTIC MANOR, Wales (AP) — With two pins per green and only nine holes per round, PowerPlay golf is hoping to change the face of the game and bring in more fans.

U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell is among the golfers scheduled to appear in the inaugural PowerPlay golf series May 30 at Celtic Manor. Former major winners Gary Player and John Daly also will be there, along with Colin Montgomerie, Paul Casey and Paula Creamer.

PowerPlay was introduced in 2007 and features half as many holes as a regular round. Each hole has two pins, with extra points awarded for tackling the trickier one — hopefully providing TV viewers with spectacular stroke play.

McDowell says “creating a 3-hour risk-and-reward shootout live for TV is a great idea.”
