KENNEWICK, Wash. (AP) — Cold weather has delayed the asparagus harvest in Eastern Washington.

The executive director of the Washington Asparagus Commission, Alan Schreiber, told Tri-City Herald some growers have started with small amounts, but the harvest should be fully under way next week. The Mid-Columbia asparagus harvest usually starts between April 5 and 15.

Schreiber expects a typical crop of about 25 million pounds.
