A cellular provider plans to erect a 155-foot cell tower in close proximity to our rural homes and roughly 600 feet from our only store and post office, which is in the main part of our small town. We are not against Amboy having better cell phone service; we just do not want the tower so close. Some homes surrounding the proposed location are less than 300 feet away. There are hills and forests on all sides of Amboy for a cell tower site. In most cases, the closest house could be up to ½ mile from the cell tower.
Several landowners have offered that they would allow the cell tower to be placed on their property located out of town. The owner of the proposed cell tower site lives in another town, far from Amboy, and will not have to look at it daily. Many residents are signing a petition to move the proposed cell tower site farther out of town. The petition will be presented to local commissioners, representatives and other government officials. Amboy residents are taking these measures to protect their beautiful landscape and property values.
We believe a cell tower has its place, but just not on the proposed site.
