In the past 17 years, Hudson’s Bay High School students have raised more than $650,000 for Doernbecher Childrens Hospital in Portland, specifically its “Kids Making Miracles” program.

There’s even a wing in the cancer ward and a patient room named for the Hudson’s Bay Eagles.

The key event is the annual Mr. Hudson’s Bay Pageant, which takes place at 7 p.m. today in the Skyview High School auditorium.

A takeoff from the traditional beauty pageant, the contest winner will be the boy who has collected the most money during an intensive fundraising campaign that begins in December.

Competitors also have learned and rehearsed dance routines and skits to ensure an entertaining evening.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door; all proceeds go to the Miracles program.

Skyview High School is at 1300 N.W. 139th St.
