SAO PAULO (AP) — Doctors say U.S. Olympic volleyball player Stacy Sykora is breathing on her own and is expected to regain full movement after being injured when the bus carrying her Brazilian team crashed.

The Sirio Libanes hospital released a statement late Saturday saying Sykora remains in an intensive care but her condition has improved since she hit her head when the team’s bus overturned on the way to a match Monday.

Sykora’s mother and sister arrived in Sao Paulo on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Sykora, of Burleson, Texas, was a member of the silver medal team at the 2008 Beijing Games. She also participated in two other Olympics.

The bus driver apparently lost control in the rain, and several other players had minor injuries.
